Butterfly Journey

Description

This painting will be used for the cover of the program at my graduation banquet! Every year, seniors have painted roads, or rivers to signify "journey", so I thought, "Why must we be limited to the ground?" I really like watching the Discovery Channel, or Oasis HD, or National Geographics, anything nature-y. One thing I really admired were the episodes about the migrations of different animals, especially the butterfly.
The Monarch butterfly travels the furthest during its migration than any other butterfly, and they have a life-span of only about 3-4 months. Therefore, not all butterflies even have the chance to go on this migration. Graduation is an individual journey as well as a collective one, and it is also one that not everyone has the chance to make. We all hope that our path will be clear as we move from familiar grounds into the vast unknown and as we move to the next section of our lives.
I used sort of a fisheye view cuz I love Yuumei's artwork... I seriously repainted the water like, five times cuz it never looked right... OCD Emote
This is all the explanation I'm gonna put here because if I were to include all my cheesy metaphors you would probably fall asleep by the end! faint XD Our theme this year is: "Can't tell where the journey will end." Enjoy!

Painted with acrylic. 18 x 24 inch? I forget the exact dimensions. Took about 13 hours.
